Author : Dr.Kavita Mittal*a and Dr.Swaty Wadhwa*b
Abstract :
India's educational system is undergoing a radical change under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on modernizing and globalizing its higher education framework. By addressing various challenges faced by Indian higher education, such as outdated curricula, limited student mobility, and absence of international collaborations, the NEP seeks to bring higher education in India into line with international norms. Among the major changes are the creation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), which facilitates credit transfers between institutions, both within India and internationally; the promotion of multidisciplinary education, allowing students to pursue a wider range of subjects across disciplines; and efforts to attract foreign universities and international students to Indian campuses through global partnerships. These changes are intended to enhance student mobility, improve employability, and provide a platform for Indian universities to rise in global rankings. The main goal of the NEP is to establish a system of higher education that not only satisfies the needs of India's rapidly developing domestic market but also competes on the world stage by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a globally interconnected workforce. This paper explores the implications of the NEP 2020 for the globalization of Indian higher education, with an emphasis on its potential to reshape India’s role in the global educational arena.
