Author : Dr. Kavita Mittal*a and Shyamli Dixit*b
Abstract :
The shift from manual, paper-based pharmacy operations to integrated digital systems signifies a critical advancement in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, particularly in improving inventory accuracy and service efficiency. This research paper presents the design and implementation of a Pharmacy Management System (PMS) that digitizes and automates the full spectrum of pharmacy operations to enhance pharmacy automation task, reduce medication errors, and optimize inventory control. The increasing need for accurate, secure, and transparent medicine distribution has driven the transition toward digital pharmacy platforms. This study proposes a web-based solution that centralizes essential functions such as inventory management, supplier coordination, billing, and customer engagement within a single, user-friendly interface. The proposed PMS employs real-time data synchronization, role-based access control, and integration with supplier databases to streamline pharmacy workflows. Key features include dynamic stock tracking, online prescription upload and approval, automated billing, and alert-based restocking mechanisms. Additionally, the system supports customer profiles to improve personalized service delivery and compliance with medical regulations.
The expected outcomes of this project include a responsive and intuitive dashboard with a graphical user interface (GUI), reduced human error, faster transaction processing, and better resource planning. By leveraging PHP and MySQL technologies, the PMS ensures scalability, cost-efficiency, and adaptability across both retail and institutional pharmacy environments. The Pharmacy Management System is designed to modernize the end-to-end medication lifecycle—from supplier procurement and pharmacist dispensing to customer sales and regulatory reporting—through a secure and centralized digital platform. The system aims to significantly improve transparency, traceability, and patient safety across pharmaceutical operations.
