Author : Artana Narendhar*a and Prerna Goyal*b

Abstract :

The purpose of the current study was to examine the impact of nostalgia on relationship commitment and satisfaction among young adults currently in romantic relationships. A sample of 110 participants, aged between 20 and 35, was assessed using standardized tools including the Batcho Nostalgia Inventory, the 15-Item Commitment Scale, and the Relationship Assessment Scale. Findings revealed that nostalgia was a significant positive predictor of relationship commitment, explaining 44% of the variance. Additionally, nostalgia also predicted relationship satisfaction, however, the association was comparatively weaker, accounting for 17.5% of the variance. These results suggest that nostalgic reflection on shared experiences plays a meaningful role in fostering emotional connection and reinforcing long-term commitment in romantic partnerships. However, present relational satisfaction may be shaped by a broader range of interpersonal and contextual factors. The study highlights the emotional utility of nostalgia and its potential application in strengthening relationship dynamics among young adults.
